How To: Make Your Own Strawberry, Oatmeal and Honey Facial Mask

Combine these natural foods to make a great, natural, gently-exfoliating, antibacterial facial mask.

  • Strawberries contain alphahydroxy acids witch are used for exfoliating. Also, the seeds act as tiny smooth exfoliators.
  • Honey has antibacterial properties and also helps the skin retain natural moisture.
  • Extra virgin olive oil is used on the skin for moisturizing and removing free radicals.
  • Coconut oil can also be used in the place of the olive oil, and it has antibacterial, anti-fungal properties and moisturizes the skin just as well.
  • Oatmeal has gentle exfoliating and moisturizing properties, and in this recipe, acts as a gelling agent.

You will need:

  • 3 or 4 strawberries
  • 1 1/2 tbsp honey (make sure it’s REAL honey!)
  • 1 or 2 drops extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil- optional
  • Pure oatmeal (not from packets)
  • Medium bowl

Directions:

  1. Cut tops off of the strawberries and mash well in the bowl (with a fork or masher) until there are no big lumps (its ok if there are small lumps).
  2. Mix in honey.
  3. If you’re using oil, make sure it’s room temperature or at least a liquid consistency. (Don’t try to guess with solid forms of oil, or you’ll end up having a super-oily face.) Add to mixture.
  4. Stir in small amounts of oatmeal until a rather thick, but not too thick texture is achieved. (Should be between the consistency of cake batter and brownie batter.)
  5. Apply a layer to full face starting at the outside of the face and working inwards, covering all spots except the eyes and lips.
  6. Let air dry for 30 minutes then rinse thoroughly but gently with warm water.
